Tourist Information Centre
Recently a study was carried out to suggest ways of refurbishing and updating
the Visitor Centre, particularly in light of the Geopark status this area now
has. The Final report funded by Scottish Natural heritage and Carried out by
Rowantree Consulting is available for viewing in hard copy at the shops and
service point in Durness. Support for the next stage is being sought by way of
petition and people living in the parish are being asked to sign. The details
are available at the local shops.
Christmas play
DVD of the Christmas play Little red riding hood is available through the
school. Anyone wishing a copy should contact Caroline McCowan at the school. All
proceed as for school funds.
Cape Wrath Challenge
Organisation is underway for the 2008Challenge. Local business is being asked to
give a small sponsorship towards costs and in return will be included in the
advertising booklet. Anyone wishing to be included should contact Yvonne or
Ronnie as soon as possible. It was with some sadness that the group learned of
the recent death by car accident of Anne Copeland and her children, regular
visitors to the Challenge. A sympathy card has been sent to Barry from all
involved. There will be a meeting of the Challenge group on the 28 January 7.30
in the Hall.
Cape Wrath range
Cape Wrath range including Garvie Island will be active with various
combinations of air bombardment, naval gunfire support and helicopter operations
during the following dates: 21 – 25 January 2008, times 09:00 to 17:00, daily 26
January 2008, times 09:00 to 17:00 28 January – 01 February 2008, times 09:00 to
17:00, daily when the range is active, red flags/lights will be flown or
displayed and sentries positioned on the u70 road. All efforts will be made to
keep the u70 road open. However due to the nature of some practices and in the
interest of public safety, closure may be necessary. Access advice can be sought
from the sentries, who will be in contact with the range officer conducting the
firing, or by contacting the freephone number. However, whatever the nature of
the practice, under no circumstances is any person to leave the road or proceed
anywhere onto the land, particularly the land north of the road within the range
area, when the red flags are flying.
