Community Council
At the recent Community Council meetings held the first Monday of the month several matters were discussed. The community council were asked about proposed improvements to the picnic area and interpretation at Smoo Cave car park to be carried out by the Highland Council to complete the planed programme of improvements. Recently the bridge and footpaths were upgraded. The Eriboll pier group asked the community council if there was a continuing interest and for another group to take over the responsibility. Further research into what further interest there is pursuing this project is to be sought. A audit of work needed on the maintenance co f the Durness footpath network is to be undertaken. A new phone card is to be produced. Residents will be invited to make any aments to the current edition before printing. The community Council are requesting clarification form the council regarding planning applications and on which occasions the community are informed. The approved minutes of the community council will continue to be displayed on the local notice board and will be available at the post office and Service point.
Cape Wrath
Due to prolonged repairs to the piers on the Kyle of Durness the operators of the tourist excursion to the most north westerly point on mainland Britain have been informed that the facilities will not be able to be used until the beginning of May and then after the repairs to the road on Cape side have been completed. The minibus operator has had to cancel bookings and regrets that this will have a knock on effect to tourism in the area. Many people come specifically to visit Cape Wrath and during this Easter holiday this will not be possible... The operators are holding the contractors, who were employed by the Highland Council, responsible and pass on their apologies to anyone inconvenienced.
