President and sponsor of the Cape Wrath Challenges Richard Haldane has been honoured in the New Years honours list with and MBE. “Dick” has been involved in several events the most recent The Great Russian Race a relay run from Vladivostok to Saint Petersburg which took place in 2005, starting in Vladivostok on 28 May and ending in St. Petersburg on 8 September. It involved runners, sponsors, race organizers, beneficiaries and the Russian people with the rare opportunity of becoming involved in a truly exciting and unique challenge. More information can be found at www.theworldrace.com. Although he lives in Pearthshire Dick has had connections with Durness for over 40 years and is a regular visitor.

The 2006 Cape Wrath Challenge will be the fifth year of the event and take place between the 14 and 20 May. Entries are currently being accepted. The committee will be meeting on 7 February to start to arrange the details for the 2006 Challenges.

 

Film Nights

 

Every Sunday in the community house at bard Terrace there is a film screened. All are welcome. The films to be shown, usually of an art orientation are advertised locally during the previous week.

Nursery Trials

 

Picture Attached Handlers were running dogs under 3 years at the first Keoldale nursery trials last Saturday second in the competition Hugh Munro manager Lees castle farm Inverness running Gael.

 

By popular request from fellow dog handlers Keoldale farm manager Jock Sutherland organised a nursery trial for working sheepdogs under the age of 3 years. Due to the lack of opportunities to run and test young dogs Jock held the first nursery dog trials last Saturday at Keoldale the same course as used for the annual sheepdog trials in September. Sixteen dogs ran in excellent conditions and weather that was perfect. The judge for the event was Grant Nicholson from Lairg.
