  • www.theclearances.org The website will tell some of the stories from the Highland Clearances, their aftermath and consequences. There is no shortage of literature on the subject but most of it concentrates on the what and the why. This site is more concerned with the who: whether one considers the Clearances ethnic cleansing or economic necessity or something in-between, the whole is made up of many different stories: most sad, some happy; of greed, of despair and, occasionally, of altruism. Some of them are not even narrative - a passenger record, 'died on board, aged 8'. One account cannot reconcile them. Form your own conclusions or reinforce prejudices you already hold but all the stories are important, to our past, our present and our future.

  • www.sutherlandmasonic.info  The intention of this site is to make available information about Freemasonry in Sutherland, the structure of the Provincial Grand Lodge and its Daughter Lodges, the work they do, and the people who are its members. • http://www.clan-mackay.co.uk/ CLAN MACKAY (Clann MacAoidgh) Welcome. This site celebrates one of Scotland's oldest Gaelic clans. Learn of its origin, read its history, see its tartan and view pictures of "Mackay Country", then join "The Gathering of the Clan" in the discussion forum.

  • http://fiss.com/fi00280.htm CLAN MACKAY The surname of Mackay is the Gaelic MacAoidh, son of Aodh, which is thought to mean fire or one of hot temper. In ancient time the name appeared as Aed, Aedh, Y, Eth, or heth. Today the name appears as Mackay, pronounced as mac-Eye, not Mack-Kay. Spelling the name as MacKay gives it another meaning. Originally, there should not be a capital "K" in Mackay.

  • http://godzilla.zeta.org.au/~zmz/david/clanbits.htm Clan: MacKay The Mackays were the most distant clan from the Scottish government, holding lands from Cape Wrath in the northwest to the Caithness border. However, their Gaelic was closer to that of southern Ireland than to the Scottish version, and the clan patronymic goes back to early Irish folktales.
