Durness

	Durness lies on the north coast in the wild, remote and beautiful expanse of Cape Wrath . It is the most north westerly inhabited locality of mainland Britain . Magnificent mountains, stunning seascapes, beautiful beaches and friendly people make a slower and more traditional pace of life, subject since early time to a great many influences and strong contrasts. For its size Durness is an active community with a high degree of participation in social and political activities


	There are two food shops - a family run grocer and a Mace supermarket housing a post office. one petrol stations, a golf course, Balnakeil Craft Village , a camp site, public house and restaurant, and three hotels. The Royal Bank of Scotland travelling bank visits once a week for two hours parking their vehicle in the Village Square. The Highland Council mobile library service has a well-stocked library van calling at several points once a fortnight. The Sunday papers are sold from a car or van travelling from Lairg.

		The landscape around Durness is wild and spectacular. The area is so remote, with few roads, that it is easy to find a little piece of solitude all of your own. It is a land of mountains and sea, cliffs and waterfalls, beaches and rainbows, a land of wind and water, full of the sounds of nature. On a clear night the starry skies are phenomenal! Durness is a refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a place of nature where your body can recuperate and your mind become peaceful.
