Defending the Past is a year-long project, run by the Royal Commission on the Ancient & Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) with support from Defence Estates. Over the next year, we will be working in and around the military training area of Cape Wrath in the far north-west of Scotland and will be encouraging access, enjoyment and understanding of this under-explored yet fascinating site. We hope that the people living and working in and around the training centre will be able to share their knowledge with us, with the thousands of troops who come to the area to train and with the many visitors to this beautiful part of Scotland.

Throughout the next several months, we will be working with pupils from Kinlochbervie High School and Durness Primary School as well as running a series of workshops and events for the local community which will explore the heritage of Cape Wrath and related archive material from RCAHMS’ extensive and fascinating collections.
